Dental Exam & Cleaning.jpg

During a dental exam your dentist will carefully look at your teeth, mouth and throat to identify any problems such as cavities, gum disease. lose fillings and oral cancer. A cleaning performed by a dental hygienist or your dentist scrapes plaque and tartar from your teeth.  If you are receiving both during the same visit the cleaning comes first.

Dental Exam

Your dentist will look in your mouth with a mirror and  small instruments. Then will examine the alignment of your teeth and check for signs of grinding.  You are encouraged to ask any questions you have about the health of your mouth.

Dental Cleaning

Your dentist or hygienist will remove plaque and tartar using either a metal scaler, which physically scrapes off bacterial build-up or with an ultrasonic scaler, which uses vibration.  During the process water will be squirted into your mouth to rinse off the plaque. Then, a suction tool will be used to suck it right up. Next your teeth will be polished with a gritty toothpaste. and afterwards flossed.  Your dentist or hygienist will then discuss any problems with your teeth or gums and may advise you on a better brushing or flossing technique.
